Parking Options for Faculty & Staff

UNT provides several parking permit options for faculty and staff based on work location, schedule, and proximity needs. Whether you prefer a reserved space near your building, a flexible general permit, or a lower-cost remote option with shuttle service, this section outlines how parking works and what to expect so you can plan your commute with confidence.

Faculty & Staff Permits

Faculty/Staff (FS) Permit

The most common permit for full-time faculty and staff. This permit allows parking in any space zoned FS (Faculty/Staff) across campus. Also allows parking in Eagle and Remote.

A – Faculty/Staff Reserved Permit

Provides access to a specific reserved lot assigned at purchase. Reserved areas are enforced 7:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., Monday–Friday, when the university is open. Also allows for parking in F/S, Eagle, and Remote.

Remote (RM) Permit
A cost-effective option for faculty and staff who do not need to park near central campus daily. Remote permits allow parking at designated remote lots, including the DATCU Stadium area, with access to campus via shuttle service.
Night (NHT) Permit
Available to staff members who work overnight hours. Valid between 10:00 p.m. and 10:00 a.m. only in F/S, Eagle, or Remote lots.
Premium Parking (Hourly Parking)
For occasional on-campus parking needs, faculty and staff may use hourly parking spaces marked with Premium Parking signage. Payment is completed through the Premium Parking app or by scanning the QR code posted in the lot.

Payroll Deduction for Parking Permits

Eligible faculty and staff may purchase parking permits using payroll deduction.

  • Payroll deduction must be stopped in writing.

  • Any outstanding balances or citations must be paid before payroll deductions can end.

Accessible Parking

Faculty and staff with a state-issued ADA license plate or placard may use ADA spaces when displaying any valid UNT parking permit.

  • ADA spaces may be used in any permit-controlled lot when the appropriate credentials are displayed.

  • Parkers with ADA credentials may also park openly in FS, Eagle, and Remote lots.

  • Individuals without a UNT permit may use hourly ADA spaces and must pay the posted rate.

  • Vehicles without state-issued ADA credentials may not park in ADA spaces under any circumstances.

Employees with parking fee exemptions (such as DV plates) must still contact Transportation Services to be issued a valid UNT permit.

Transportation Options for Faculty & Staff

Getting Around Campus and Denton

Faculty and staff have access to several transportation resources that support commuting, sustainability, and flexibility. Whether you drive daily, occasionally use transit, or prefer alternative transportation, UNT offers options to fit a wide range of needs.

What is available to Faculty & Staff?

Bike-Friendly DCTA Buses

Denton County Transportation Authority (DCTA) buses serve the UNT campus and surrounding areas. Faculty and staff may ride DCTA buses for free by showing your UNT ID. All DCTA buses are equipped with bike racks, allowing you to combine biking and transit.

Transit App
The free Transit app provides real-time bus tracking, trip planning, and service updates.
Rider Alerts
Sign up for DCTA Rider Alerts to receive text or email notifications about delays or route changes.

Bicycling & Micromobility

UNT supports biking as a transportation option for faculty and staff. Bike racks are available across campus, and bicycles must be parked and locked in designated racks only. Faculty and staff using bicycles are subject to all campus bicycle safety and parking regulations. If you need a bike lock, see our UNT Police Department for a free U-lock
