The University of North Texas is a large campus so we encourage you to plan in advance – and have a back-up plan in case the parking lot you want to use is full. Please refer to our campus parking map.

Information for visitors & the UNT community

  • parking tipsWe require parking permits 24 hours a day to park on campus – this includes days when school may not be in session and during the summer. If you don’t use a parking permit, you are subject to a citation. Daily visitor permits are available in specified lots. Hourly parking and garage parking is also available.   • If you are attending an event on campus, please check with the event organizer for guidance on where to park. If there is none, then you will need a UNT or visitor parking permit, or use the hourly parking lots.
  • There is some free parking in the neighborhoods around campus. We ask that you please be courteous to our Denton neighbors and follow proper parking guidelines – don’t block driveways, observe proper distance from stop signs and fire hydrants and don’t park next to curbs painted yellow or red.
  • UNT offers a FREE Park and Ride in cooperation with the Denton County Transportation Authority. Staff and students may park at the Denton Med Park Station and ride the Colorado Express route into campus. Check schedule for times, as it may take 20 minutes or more to get to campus.
  • UNT Discovery Park is located about 5 miles north of the main campus. This is where the College of Engineering and the College of Information are located. Those who have Highland Street Garage access cards for parking on the main campus will need to purchase a parking permit to park at Discovery Park or ride the Discovery Park bus from the main UNT campus.
  • Commencement and high school graduations on campus use Lot 20 for guest parking. A full list of directions and tips for parking during commencement can be found on the UNT Commencement site.
  • For ADA parking on campus, there are a few different options based on whether you have a valid UNT permit or not. If you have a valid permit, you can park freely in any F/S or Eagle lot. If you don't have a valid permit, then you have to park in a paid hourly ADA space.    Description of ADA parking on campus.

UNT Students

  • We encourage students, especially those who are new to UNT, to arrive at least 30 minutes before class and have more than one parking lot in mind since the lot closest to your class may fill up quickly.
  • To ensure you find parking, please consider parking lots with plenty of open spaces such as Lot 20 at North Texas Boulevard. Lot 20 has a bus station where you can wait in comfort for a bus to take you to campus.  
  • If you have a UNT parking permit then you can park in F/S parking spaces from 5:30 pm to 7 am Monday through Friday, and all day Saturday and Sunday. This may allow you to park closer to residence halls and other campus buildings.
  • Resident and commuter students who park in the lots near Apogee Stadium, Victory Hall and Lot 20 will be required to move their cars out of these areas and to the main part of campus on football home game days. This occurs typically six times each fall semester and usually on Saturdays.
